= Ustulina placentiformis Rehm var. magnifica Rehm, Leafl. Philipp. Bot. 6: 2207. 1914.
Stromata peltate, centrally attached on stout, branched, coalescent stipes, with crenate margins, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 0.8-5 cm diam x 0.7-1.3 cm high; surface fawn (87), dark brick (60), or sepia (63) on top, black on lateral side and on stipe; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, without apparent KOH-extractable pigments or with purple slate (102) pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer massive, blackish, up to 1.2 cm thick, extending into the space between perithecia.
Perithecia long tubular, 0.3-0.4 mm diam x 0.8-1.3 mm high.
Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.
Asci 150-172 mm total length x 6-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 54-65 mm long, the stipes 93-113 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.8-1.2 mm high x 1.5-2 mm broad.
Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, highly variable, slightly inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 9.5-12 (-13) x 4-5 mm, with straight germ slit less than spore-length frequently on the flattened side; perispore indehiscent in 10% KOH; epispore smooth.
