TELEOMORPH
Hypoxylon pseudostipitatum Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, A Revision of the Genus Hypoxylon, p. 223. 1996.
Stromata discoid to peltate, with a narrow connective attached to substrate, plane, 4.5-9 mm diam x 2.5-5 mm thick; surface blackish; blackish tissue immediately beneath surface, without apparent KOH-extractable pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer dark brown, woody, 2-4 mm thick.
Perithecia spherical to obovoid, 0.3-0.4 mm diam x 0.3-0.5 mm high.
Ostioles papillate, encircled with a concave bovei-type disc 0.3-0.4 mm diam.
Asci not observed.
Ascospores pale brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with broadly rounded ends, 7.5-10 x 3-4 mm, with straight faint germ slit much less than spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
