Biscogniauxia africana Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, Mycotaxon 66: 16. 1998.

Stromata raised-discoid, with plane or slightly concave surface, 3.5-6 mm diam x ca. 1 mm thick, with dirty ochraceous to dark brown, distinct raised margins originating from outer dehiscing layer; mature surface blackish brown; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; layer beneath perithecia composed largely of whitened host tissue, 0.5-1 mm thick; tissue of margins 0.3-0.4 mm thick, dirty brown, woody.

Perithecia tubular, 0.1-0.2 mm diam x 0.7-0.9 mm high.

Ostioles higher than stromatal surface, with openings coarsely papillate.

Asci 75-90 mm total length x 5.5-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 65-75 mm long, the stipes ca. 10 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5 mm high x 2-2.5 mm broad.

Ascospores light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, slightly inequilateral to equilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, smooth, 10-13 x 4.5-5.5 (-6) mm, with straight germ slit spore-length.
