NOTES

This rarely-collected fungus is mainly distributed in the Pacific Northwest. Recently, Vasilyeva (1988) reported it from the Far East. Biscogniauxia bartholomaei and B. nummularia are similar in having grayish brown or dark brown, woody stromatal tissue between perithecia. They differ mainly in their ascospore sizes and anamorphs. Moreover, Biscogniauxia nummularia is primarily an European species. The conidiogenous structure is in general Virgariella-like as defined by Ju and Rogers (1996) but deviates from the typical pattern in having more robust conidiophores.
