NOTES

This fungus is like B. communapertura in having a number of perithecia sharing a common ostiolar canal. Biscogniauxia communapertura differs in having coarsely papillate ostiolar openings, in having a larger perithecial diameter, in having smaller, paler ascospores, and in having a much less than spore-length germ slit. The basionym Nummularia plana was considered to be a synonym of Hypoxylon nummularium var. pseudopachyloma by Miller (1961). The latter name is considered to be a synonym of B. capnodes herein. Biscogniauxia plana is similar to B. capnodes in the stromatal surface and ascospore morphology, but differs from the latter in having perithecia arranged in rosettes. It differs from all other Biscogniauxia species in the extremely narrow perithecia.
