Daldinia bambusicola Y.-M. Ju, J. D. Rogers, & San Martín, Mycotaxon 61: 253. 1997.

Stromata globose, sessile or subsessile, smooth, 0.6-2 cm diam x 1-1.8 cm high; surface brown vinaceous (84) or sepia (63), blackened and somewhat varnished in age; dull reddish brown granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments dark livid (80) or without apparent KOH-extractable pigments; the tissue between perithecia white to grayish brown, pithy to woody; the tissue below the perithecial layer composed of alternating zones, the darker zones dark brown, pithy to woody, 0.1-0.2 mm thick, the lighter zones white to grayish brown, pithy to woody, persistent, 0.5-2 mm thick.

Perithecia obovoid to tubular, 0.3-0.5 mm diam x 0.6-2 mm high.

Ostioles slightly papillate.

Asci 140-160 mm total length x 6-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing part 45-55 mm long, the stipe 90-105 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.3 mm high x 2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 8.5-11 x 4-5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length on convex side; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
