NOTES

Costa and Castro no. 874, although labeled as H. vogesiacum on the packet, was considered to be H. rubrostromaticum [= H. subrutilum] by Miller (1961). Hypoxylon brevirimum differs from H. subrutilum in having a germ slit much less than spore-length, in having the germ slit on the flattened side of the ascospore, and in having a perispore that does not dehisce in 10% KOH solution.
