NOTES

Hypoxylon chathamense is similar to H. fuscum and H. trugodes in the colors of the stromatal surface and the stromatal granules. However, it is different from the latter taxa in having nearly equilateral ascospores and in having luteous stromatal pigments. Both H. chathamense and H. subrutiloides have nearly equilateral ascospores, but are different in perispore dehiscence and in ascospore size ranges. The massive ascal apical ring of H. chathamense is noteworthy.
