Stromata effused-pulvinate, plane, 1-4 cm long x 0.5-3 cm broad x 0.8 mm thick; surface dark vinaceous (82) or brown vinaceous (84); light ochraceous granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments luteous (12); the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid to tubular, 0.3 mm diam x 0.5-0.6 mm high.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 190-215 mm total length x 8-9 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 90-100 mm long, the stipes 90-115 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 2.5-3 mm high x 4-4.5 mm broad.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with narrowly to broadly rounded ends, 13-15 x 7-8 mm, with straight to slightly sigmoid germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
