Hypoxylon dingleyae Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, A Revision of the Genus Hypoxylon, p. 110. 1996.

Stromata effused-pulvinate, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, up to 14 cm long x 3 cm broad x 2-2.5 mm thick; surface isabelline (65) or olivaceous (48); dull orange to rusty granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments luteous (12); the tissue below the perithecial layer dark brown, 1 mm thick.

Perithecia tubular to long tubular, 0.4-0.6 mm diam x 1-1.5 mm high.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 190-260 mm total length x 10-12 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 70-90 mm long, the stipes 120-175 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 1 mm high x 3 mm broad.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 13-16 x 6-7.5 mm, with straight germ slit much less than spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
