Stromata glomerate to pulvinate, with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 1-5 mm diam x 0.7-1.5 mm thick; surface fawn (87) or hazel (88); yellowish brown granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments yellow (14), amber (47), or infrequently luteous (12); the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.3-0.4 mm diam.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 155-170 mm total length x 9-11 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 90-120 mm long, the stipes 45-75 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5 mm high x 2.5-3 mm diam.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 11-16 x 6-7 mm, with straight to slightly sigmoid germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
