Hypoxylon macrocarpum Pouzar

NOTES

This is one of the many Hypoxylon taxa that has been included by Miller (1961) in H. rubiginosum. Hypoxylon macrocarpum differs from H. rubiginosum primarily in having olivaceous stromatal pigments. The young stromata of specimens from North America usually are isabelline (65) on the surface, while those from Europe are brown vinaceous (84). They are otherwise similar. Until cultures from European and North American collections are available for comparison, we tentatively consider specimens from Europe and North America to be conspecific. Hypoxylon macrocarpum differs from H. fuscum mainly in having larger perithecia and in having larger conidia.
