TELEOMORPH

Hypoxylon piceum Ellis, Amer. Naturalist 17: 194. 1883.

Stromata largely effete, only thin layer of bases of peripheral part left, probably effused-pulvinate; surface observable near the margins, chestnut (40); blackish red granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments dull green (70).

Perithecia not intact.

Ostioles not observable.

Asci not observed.

Ascospores light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, laterally compressed, with broadly to narrowly rounded ends, 10.5-12 (-14) x 4.5-6 x 3-3.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore indehiscent in 10% KOH; epispore smooth.
