NOTES
Among the known monocot-inhabiting Hypoxylon taxa, only the present fungus and H. rubellum Penz. & Sacc. have ornamented ascospores. The latter differs in having luteous or orange stromatal pigments in KOH, in having shallow pits separated by reticulate rims on the epispore, and in having larger ascospores, 16.5-21 x 7-8(-8.5) mm. Unfortunately, neither of these species has been cultured.
