TELEOMORPH

Kretzschmaria guyanensis J. D. Rogers & Y.-M. Ju, Mycotaxon 68: 358. 1998.

Stromata restricted-pulvinate to depressed-hemispherical, discrete or densely aggregated, 2-8 mm diam x 2.5-3.5 mm high, bearing one to several umbonate to conical protuberances on top, attached to substrate with narrow connectives; surface dark brown to blackish brown, smooth on top, cracked on sides; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface; tissue between and beneath perithecia coriaceous to woody, white to gray, becoming dark brown.

Perithecia spherical, 0.8-1.2 mm diam.

Ostioles coarsely papillate to conical.

Asci 260-310 mm total length x 16-18 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 230-280 mm long, the stipes 25-35 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, urn-shaped, 15-16 mm high x 9-10 mm broad.

Ascospores blackish brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral to somewhat allantoid, with narrowly rounded ends sometimes pinched, smooth, 50-65 x 14.5-17, with straight to somewhat sigmoid germ slit slightly less than spore-length or nearly so.
