Stromata effused-pulvinate, 0.6-2.3 cm diam x 0.7-0.9 mm thick; surface dark rusty brown to blackish brown, with conspicuous perithecial mounds 2/3 to 1/2 exposed; carbonaceous tissue immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.4-0.7 mm diam.

Ostioles higher than the stromatal surface, with openings conic-papillate, sometimes encircled with a slightly flattened area.

Asci 115-150 µm total length x 4-5 µm broad, the spore-bearing parts 65-75 µm long, the stipes 55-75 µm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, inverted hat-shaped, 1-1.5 µm high x 1.5 µm broad.

Ascospores light brown, unicellular, reniform, with broadly rounded ends, (7-)8-10 x 3.5-4.5 µm, with straight, inconspicuous germ slit 1/4-1/3 spore-length on the ventral side.
