NOTES

After the overlaying yellow subicular hyphae are worn off with age, the stromatal surfaces are still tightly covered by a layer of thin, silky tissue. This can be easily seen in the type specimen of Sphaeria hypoleuca. The multiperitheciate nature of the stromata can be camouflaged by the highly conspicuous perithecial contours which may lead one to consider the stromata rosellinioid.
