TELEOMORPH

Nemania macrocarpa Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, Nova Hedwigia 74: 100 (2002).

Stromata pulvinate, with sloped margins, elliptical in outline, 1-3 mm long, 0.7-2 mm broad, containing 1-3 perithecia; surface dull black, with conspicuous perithecial mounds, smooth; carbonaceous tissue immediately beneath surface; scanty, grayish brown, soft tissue between upper parts of perithecia; lower part of perithecia directly embedded in host tissue.

Perithecia spherical, 1-1.5 mm diam.

Ostioles higher than the stromatal surface, with openings coarsely papillate.

Asci 140-185 µm total length x 6-8.5(-10.5) µm broad, the spore-bearing parts 35-65 µm long, the stipes 105-160 µm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, inverted hat-shaped, 1.5-2 µm high x 2 µm broad.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoidal, nearly equilateral, with broadly rounded ends, 8.5-10.5 x 4.5-5 µm, with straight, conspicuous germ slit less than spore-length to nearly spore-length.
