TELEOMORPH

Nemania venezuelensis Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, Nova Hedwigia 74: 110 (2002).

Stromata pulvinate to effused-pulvinate, superficial, 2-12 mm long, 2-4 mm broad, 0.4-0.5 mm thick; surface blackish, with conspicuous or inconspicuous perithecial mounds, smooth; carbonaceous tissue immediately beneath surface; whitish, soft tissue between perithecia; tissue beneath the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia depressed-spherical, 0.4-0.5 mm diam x 0.3-0.4 mm high.

Ostioles slightly higher than the stromatal surface, with openings slightly papillate and usually surrounded by a paler region.

Asci 160-210 µm total length x 15-18 µm broad, the spore-bearing parts 115-150 µm long, the stipes 40-60 µm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, urn-shaped, 7.5-8 µm high x 5-5.5 µm broad.

Ascospores brown, unicellular, ellipsoidal-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 22-27 x(8-) 9.5-11.5 µm, with straight, conspicuous germ slit 1/3 spore-length on the ventral side.
