NOTES

Specimen 1910 was listed as the type of H. notatum by Miller (1961) and is accepted as the lectotype. Stromata of the type specimen of H. nectrioide at BPI are in poor condition. The ascospore size range is 13-15 x 6.5-7.5 mm. Spegazzini (1884) recorded the surface of stromata as being "primo rubris dein rubiginosis". Therefore, we consider this name a synonym of H. notatum.

This fungus is closely related to H. perforatum from which it differs in frequently having glomerate stromata, in having highly reduced or no ascal apical ring, and in having larger ascospores.
