Jumillera cinerea (Ellis & Everh.) J. D. Rogers, Y.-M. Ju, & San Martín

TELEOMORPH | CULTURES AND ANAMORPH | SPECIMENS EXAMINED | NOTES

NOTES

The Geniculosporium-like synanamorph has a simple, unbranched or occasionally branched conidiogenous structure which is ephemeral and disintegrates early. The conidiogenous cells do not bear a long, geniculate conidiogenous rachis as do those of J. mexicana.

Miller (1961) cited Rick's specimen no. 226 as the type for Nummularia grisea. We examined this specimen from BPI and its duplicate from the Petrak herbarium in GZU. It was collected in 1923, later than the publication of its basionym, and has a white stromatal surface. This fungus is considered to be a species distinct from J. cinerea (see J. albida). We also examined another Rick specimen labeled as N. grisea at BPI [589606] and GZU [Petrak 1452]; it is dated 1906, but, unfortunately, is immature. There are two packets at GAM sent to J. H. Miller by Rick in 1933 who labeled them as type. They contain material of J. cinerea. One of them is selected as the lectotype and N. grisea is accordingly considered to be synonymous with J. cinerea. Hypoxylon cinereum, N. cinerea, and N. grisea were considered to be synonyms of H. hypophlaeum by Miller (1961). Unfortunately, we were unable to locate type material of Nummularia cinerea at FH.
